How do light therapy lamps actually work?
Light therapy is often used to replace missing daylight and has documented effects on sleep quality, energy, circadian rhythm, and mood.
During dark periods, we are not exposed to the blue spectrum of daylight (450–480 nm), which normally hits the eye early in the day. This light plays a key role in 'regulating' the body's internal clock. When this natural signal is lost, it can affect the body in many ways:
Delayed circadian rhythm: The body does not receive information about the start of the day, and the production of the sleep hormone melatonin continues longer than normal.
Lower energy levels: Without the light that stimulates brain alertness, less cortisol is produced, which normally promotes energy and mental focus in the morning.
Poorer sleep at night: As the circadian rhythm shifts, falling asleep becomes more difficult – one feels awake at the wrong time.
Normal indoor lighting typically provides only 200–500 lux, while natural daylight outdoors can be 10,000–50,000 lux. In addition, ordinary lamps lack the wavelengths (450–480 nm) that stimulate the brain's alertness system.
Strong light and the correct spectrum – especially blue/white light – reduce melatonin production, increase cortisol levels, and give the body a clear signal that the day has begun. The result is faster waking, more stable energy, and a more natural sleep rhythm in the evening.

Studies show that light therapy can improve sleep and prevent seasonal affective disorder

Why do many people feel tired and down during winter?
When we don't get sunlight in the mornings, our body's internal clock gets confused. Without natural light, which normally signals the start of the day, the body continues to produce melatonin – the hormone that makes us feel sleepy.
As a result, we wake up more slowly, feel sluggish and lacking in energy, and our circadian rhythm gradually shifts. Over time, this can lead to poorer sleep quality at night, less energy during the day, and a general feeling of imbalance in the body.
Morning light therapy can help the body "understand" that the day has begun – and restore a natural and stable circadian rhythm.

Studies show that light therapy can improve sleep and prevent seasonal affective disorder
Light therapy was originally developed for the treatment of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), and it is now documented by thousands of scientific studies. Research shows that strong, natural light at 10,000 lux can help to stabilise circadian rhythm, increase energy levels, and improve mood – especially during the dark season.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does a light therapy lamp do?
A light therapy lamp emits light that mimics natural sunlight. This can help regulate the body's internal clock, improve mood, boost energy levels, and assist with certain sleep disorders.
How long should one sit in front of the light therapy lamp?
We generally recommend sitting in front of a light therapy lamp with a light output of 10,000 lux for approximately 20–30 minutes each day. The duration may vary according to individual needs and the specific lux level of the lamp.
How much electricity does the light therapy lamp use?
The power consumption of a light therapy lamp varies depending on its model and design. The exact power consumption can be found in the product details of the specific lamp.
How is the light therapy lamp used?
The light therapy lamp should be positioned so that the light reaches your eyes, but without looking directly at the lamp. It is best used for 20–30 minutes in the morning, and it should be about 20–30 cm away from your face.
