InfraPanelX PRO red light therapy panel with 60 LEDs

Red Light Therapy Panels: An Honest UK Buying Guide (2026)

Written by Nordic Light Lab — the UK arm of a Scandinavian family of specialist light-therapy shops, including Lysterapi.no, Norway’s largest light-therapy store with over 10,000 customers. We sell the products we write about, and we say so openly.

Red light panels have gone from niche recovery gear to one of the most searched-for light therapy products in the UK. This guide explains what actually separates one panel from another, and which of our four models fits which use — including who should buy the cheapest one.

What separates panels: size, power and wavelengths

Three things matter. Coverage — a small panel treats a knee; a wall panel treats your whole back at once. Light output — measured as irradiance; to give a concrete example from our own range, the compact Mini delivers 68 mW/cm² from 12 LEDs at 10 W, while the PRO delivers 190 mW/cm² from 60 LEDs at 91 W — roughly three times the dose per minute. Wavelengths — our panels run a visible red programme (630 nm) and a near-infrared programme, separately or combined; near-infrared penetrates deeper and carries much of the research on muscles and recovery.

Our range, honestly compared

Panel Price Best for
InfraPanelX Mini £339 targeted areas: face, joints, travel
InfraPanelX PRO £369 the sweet spot — back, legs, daily recovery
InfraPanelX MAX £919 most of the body at once, serious training recovery
InfraPanelX ULTRA £2,289 full-body wall panel, clinic scale at home

An honest note: for most first-time buyers the PRO is the right answer, and the price gap to the Mini is small for a panel with several times the output. The ULTRA is magnificent but overkill unless you are treating your whole body most days — we would rather tell you that here than have you find out after spending £2,289.

Who should not buy one

If you want red light mainly for facial skin, a dedicated LED mask sits closer to the skin and is designed for the job at a third of the MAX’s price. And as with everything in light therapy: if you will not use it several times a week, the research says you will not feel much.

Frequently asked questions

Which red light therapy panel is best in the UK?

It depends on how much of your body you want to treat at once. For targeted use - a knee, shoulder or face - the InfraPanelX Mini (339 pounds) is enough. The PRO (369 pounds) is the sweet spot for most people: large enough for back or legs, small enough to hang anywhere. The MAX (919 pounds) treats most of the body at once, and the ULTRA (2,289 pounds) is a full-body wall panel at clinic scale.

What is the difference between red light and near-infrared?

Red light (around 630 nm) is visible and works mainly in the skin. Near-infrared is invisible and penetrates deeper, which is why it features in research on muscles, joints and recovery. Our panels let you run red, near-infrared, or both programmes together.

How long and how often should I use a red light panel?

As a rule of thumb, 10 to 20 minutes per treatment area is a good session, most days of the week. More is not better - the response to red light follows a dose curve where very long sessions add little.

Do I need eye protection with a red light panel?

The light is not UV, but large panels are very bright and can be uncomfortable to look at. Our panels come with optional eye protection, and we recommend using it or keeping your eyes closed when treating the face.

Are red light panels worth it compared to a clinic?

A single clinic session in the UK typically costs 30 to 80 pounds. A panel at home pays for itself within a couple of months of regular use - and consistency, which is what the research rewards, is far easier when the panel hangs on the back of your door.
